My dog, Maisie, is quite anxious, so vet visits are one of our tougher endeavors. We have been going to Cedar Veterinary clinic for the past year, which has included 2 annual visits and also a visit for stomach and paw issues. The good: The staff is friendly and answers any questions I have. They are also easily reachable by text or call and always get back to me promptly. Lisa, one of the vet techs, is particularly awesome and I requested to always have her for our visits. Maisie, who weighs 50 lbs, was scared to step down into the backroom, as there was a ledge, so I offered to pick her up and carry her in, and Lisa was willing to carry Maisie into the backroom to make it a bit easier for her. The bad: The office was closed for around 2 weeks during the holidays (Christmas) which was tough, because Maisie had some issues then and we had to wait to address them Last year, I went to order Maisie’s heart worm preventative medicine and the office wouldn’t approve it, because a heart worm test hadn’t been done during our visit. I had thought this test was standard practice and I had never specifically had to ask for it, so I ended up having to bring Maisie back in. This most recent visit, the office switched to a “package” for blood work that also includes a urine and stool sample, which I didn’t want.. I just wanted bloodwork and a heart worm test. I was emailed the blood work and saw they had data for Maisie’s urine, which puzzled me. I hadn’t specifically said, “please no urine test,” but I also wasn’t under the impression that was something that was being done. I emailed back asking how they got the urine, and was informed that they did a cystoscopy procedure, which means they stuck a needle into Maisie’s bladder to extract urine. Had I have known, I would have refused this. Also during this visit, no attempt at distraction was made while Maisie got her vaccines. The vet tech held Maisie still and the vet, Dr. Johnson, administered the vaccines. Previous vets have attempted to distract Maisie to make it a gentler experience, and this was her worst experience getting her vaccines. Overall they have been a good team to work with, but these little oversights that make things harder for Maisie have been disappointing
