I wish I had been going here sooner.
The staff is beyond amazing and helped me a ton through the process of putting my snake to sleep after months of trying to work through an RI.
I am so thankful that he was handled with care even after he had passed. Exotics tech phoenix was incredible and I'd love to highlight them directly.
Thank you again to all the exotics staff who worked with and helped my Bagheera.
TL;DR: This Veterinarian Killed our Leopard Gecko, traumatized my partner in the process, and then refused to give us a refund.
We took our Gecko, Pip to Parish Creek Veterinary hospital on May 5th, 2026 at 3:30 PM. When we took her out of her enclosure that morning, she was as active and squirmy as she normally was , despite having a swollen foot and eye. We took her in, and she was clearly VERY agitated. She was taken by the doctor for quite a time, and when Pip was brought back she was bleeding in multiple places. The veterinarian (or nurses, I'm not sure which) then administered shots directly in front of my partner. Pip then let out the loudest squeak of her life, which leopard geckos only do when they are under extreme stress. This whole process took more than two hours.
We then paid for her appointment and for a handful of different medications, which was in total $292.67, and took her home.
When we got her home from the vet, and put her back in her enclosure, she had stopped being squirmy and had become lethargic. When picked up and placed back into her hide, she would barely move. She was so sluggish I assumed the veterinarian had sedated her, which my partner told me had not been the case. She slowly walked over to her hide. The final sign of life she showed was about 30-90 minutes after the veterinarian appointment, when I went up to look at her in her hide and she looked at me, then opened her mouth at me (which is a sign of distress).
At about 8 pm (or about 3 hours after she was brought back home) we went to administer her foot medication, picked her up, and she was no longer moving. My partner was holding her when we realized what had happened, and started scream-sobbing. She was inconsolable for the next three days, and ended up having to take unpaid time off work the next day just to cry. She cried constantly for three days, and she kept repeating what had happened at the Vet leading up to her death.
The next day, we called the vet office and they offered to let us drop off the medications for a refund on the medications. That was only a refund of $96. So we essentially paid 200 dollars for the vet to kill our Leopard Gecko. We of course demanded a full refund as the service we paid for had ended our pet's life instead of saving it. We spoke to the Receptionist, who told us that it wasn't in her hands, and that the veterinarian would be in the next day and would call her back. Once The vet called us back, on Thursday, Erin was forced to relive the trauma she had endured at the office. The veterinarian then said that the refund was out of their hands, and that the person who had that power would be in Monday and would call us back. It is now Tuesday and she never called us. My partner and are still fighting for a full refund.
Staff are friendly and experienced enough in my opinion but my experience trying to get estimates and pricing has been difficult. I had my dog seen for eye issues in December and at the time got an estimate to have his teeth cleaned. In April I was told that their prices change on Jan 1st of every year so my estimate for the teeth cleaning was no longer good and I would need another separate appointment just to have his teeth eyeballed again for another $100. This isn't the only frustrating experience like this I've had here, but it's the only one I'm going to take the time to share. Otherwise they seem skilled and capable.
